An experimental study of a radial wall jet formed by the normal impingement of a round synthetic jet

چکیده
The flow field of a radial wall jet created by the impingement of a round synthetic jet normal to a flat surface was characterized using hot-wire anemometry. In the synthetic wall jets the width of the outer layer was observed to increase linearly with the radial distance along the wall, while the local maximum velocity varied inversely. The synthetic wall jet exhibits self-similar behavior as distinguished by the collapse of the mean and rms velocity profiles when normalized by the outer layer scaling variables. Increasing the actuator driving amplitude at a fixed frequency (i) increased the growth rate of the outer layer, and (ii) decreased the decay rate of the local velocity maximum. The flow field of the synthetic wall jet was dominated by vortical structures associated with the actuator driving frequency, and harmonics connected with the interaction of the produced vortex structures. For the actuator conditions investigated, neither the classical laminar nor fully turbulent analytical solutions for continuous wall jets were amenable to modeling the synthetic wall jet profile due to the transitional and unsteady nature of the synthetic wall jet. © 2010 Elsevier Masson SAS. Experimental study and numerical simulation of three dimensional two phase impinging jet flow using anisotropic turbulence model
Hydrodynamic of a turbulent impinging jet on a flat plate has been studied experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted for the Reynolds number range of 72000 to 102000 and a fixed jet-to-plate dimensionless distance of H/d=3.5. Based on the experimental setup, a multi-phase numerical model was simulated to predict flow properties of impinging jets using two turbulent models. Mesh...

During its near-ground hovering phase a Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) aircraft creates a complex three-dimensional flow field between jet streams, the airframe surface and the ground. A proper understanding and numerical prediction of this flow is important in the design of such aircraft. In this paper an experimental facility, used to gather validation data suitable for testing C...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation on Slot air Jet impingement Heat Transfer between Horizontal Concentric Circular Cylinders
A numerical study has been carried out for slot air jet impingement cooling of horizontal concentric circular cylinders. The slot air jet is situated at the symmetry line of a horizontal cylinder along the gravity vector and impinges on the bottom of the outer cylinder which is designated as θ=0°. The outer cylinder is partially opened at the top with a width of W=30mm and is kept at constant t...

Jet impingement heat transfer is an effective and practical approach that is employed in many industrial processes where heating, cooling, or drying is required. Details of the heat or mass transfer rate have been investigated both experimentally and numerically and can be found in the published literature. In most of the numerical studies, control-volume approach has been employed to solve the...
